BARRA NOVA PEARL & LAGOA PEARL ECO-NATURE RESORTS:
ENVIRONMENTAL GOLF COURSE DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS
Gold Tee Golf International (GTG), founded by American golf course architect Dan A. Blankenship, is designing the first, full-service, 9-hole eco golf course in the area for Barra Nova Pearl and Lagoa Pearl Eco-Nature Resorts. GTG Brazil specialises in creating eco golf courses that integrate natural protected areas.
This spectacular 9-hole eco golf course, complete with a fully equipped golf course academy, will be included in international golf course listings. The eco golf course will be par 36 and just over 3,600 yards.
The following is a brief list of environmental golf course design considerations for Barra Nova Pearl and Lagoa Pearl Eco-Nature Resorts:
· Protecting plant species and biodiversity.
· Designing an irrigation system that efficiently uses water, only where and when needed.
· Investigating the use of alternative or supplemental sources of irrigation.
· Using alternative pesticides that are natural and non-invasive.
· Retaining as much natural cover as possible and enhancing vegetation through supplementary planting of trees, shrubs and grasses, especially along fairways — to provide wildlife habitats and along water courses to support aquatic habitats.
· Incorporating as many natural features and areas in the golf course design as possible to minimize disturbance of the existing ecology.
· Consider future maintenance requirements of all golf course design features. Low maintenance features that require less intensive management are preferred.
